Privacy policy
KeepUp is a fitness and accountability app that turns your workouts into points, streaks, and friendly competition with clubs of friends. It's developed by Cesar Younes. This policy explains what information KeepUp collects, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to the Android app, the iPhone app, and the KeepUp web dashboard.
By creating a KeepUp account, you agree to the practices described here and to our Terms of Use.
KeepUp only asks for what it actually uses. Here's the complete list:
| Data | Source & purpose |
|---|---|
| Name, email, profile photo | From Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, to create and identify your account. |
| First name, family name, date of birth | Entered by you during setup, shown only to you in your own account. |
| Display name, avatar photo | Set by you (or taken from your Google photo); shown on leaderboards and to clubmates. |
| Workout data — exercise type, duration, calories, heart rate | Read from Android Health Connect or Apple Health (HealthKit), with your explicit permission, to calculate your points, streaks, and Estimated Effort score. KeepUp never writes anything back to Health Connect or Apple Health. See Health data. |
| Daily step counts | Read from Health Connect or Apple Health, with your explicit permission, to award steps points and show your daily steps in the app and in clubs that count steps. |
| Club, streak, and points activity | Created by using the app — which clubs you're in, your streak, your rank, nudges you send or receive, and messages you post in club chat. |
| Reports and blocked members | Reports you send (the reason, any details you add, and a copy of the reported message) and the list of members you've blocked. Used to keep clubs safe — see Moderation. |
| Purchase confirmations | When you subscribe to Premium, the payment is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). KeepUp only receives confirmation of the purchase — which plan, and whether it's active — never your card or payment details. |
| Crash reports | Collected by Firebase Crashlytics when the app crashes: crash logs and basic device info (device model, operating system and app version), used only to find and fix bugs. |
| Push notification token | Assigned to your device by Firebase Cloud Messaging (or your browser, on the web dashboard), used to deliver the notifications you've enabled. |
| Advertising identifiers | Collected by Google AdMob when ads are shown — see Advertising. |
KeepUp does not request your location, contacts, microphone, or camera access — photo uploads go through your device's own camera or gallery app, and KeepUp only ever receives the resulting image.
If you connect Android Health Connect or Apple Health (HealthKit), KeepUp reads only:
Nothing else is read, and KeepUp never writes, edits, or deletes anything in Health Connect or Apple Health.
You can turn off access at any time — see Your choices. KeepUp then simply stops syncing new workouts and steps.
We don't sell your data. It's shared only with the services that make KeepUp work:
Other members of a club you're in can see your display name, avatar, level, activity, and chat messages within that club — that visibility is the point of the app, not a third-party disclosure.
You can report a club chat message or a club member, and block members you don't want to hear from. When you send a report, KeepUp stores the reason, any details you add, and a copy of the reported message or photo, and reviews it — even if the original message is later deleted. The person you report isn't told who reported them.
Your blocked-members list is stored so their messages stay hidden from you and they can't nudge or challenge you. Blocking is private — the other person isn't told. Reports are kept for as long as needed to review and act on them; your own reports and blocks are deleted along with your account.
Free KeepUp accounts may see advertising served through Google AdMob, which can use an advertising identifier to show and measure ads. Premium accounts don't see ads. Health data from Health Connect or Apple Health is never used for advertising.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account removes your profile, workout and step history, and club activity from our systems right away — it isn't a soft delete or a 30-day grace period, it's immediate.
KeepUp is intended for people 13 and older and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it. Users under 18 should use KeepUp with the permission of a parent or guardian.
Your data is encrypted in transit, and access to KeepUp's database is restricted so accounts can only reach their own data and what they've explicitly shared with a club. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat this seriously and fix issues as soon as we find them.
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
